I love these quiet, cold mornings. The kids stay in their pajamas until noon. We cuddle on the couch with a stack of library books and read the day away.
I read once that the trick to a great photograph is to look for the LIGHT first and then find your subject. A beautiful subject, whatever it is, will be lifeless and forgettable in dull lighting.
So when I noticed the stunning light streaming through the kitchen windows, I quickly grabbed my Ellie girl and my camera.

When looking for a place to live in Sacramento, one of the things we really wanted for our family was a grassy, fenced yard. After living the last year in Las Vegas, we realized J did not understand grass when he assumed everything green was a cactus.
"A little boy needs a yard." We repeated over and over again.
And boy were we right! Oh the adventures and the fun we've had in this yard. Lucky for me, he lets me share and photograph what he affectionately calls, "my backyard."
Best part of the new yard? J made friends with the boys next door and has adorable conversations that I have the joy of listening to.
Sometimes, I get distracted from my homework by blog reading or Facebook. And sometimes all it takes is a napping baby and this macro technique.
